The Saginaw Bay Sturgeon Restoration Program and its partners have been working since 2017 on a significant project to restore lake sturgeon in the Saginaw Bay system. This follows major partner investments in restoration projects, research, dam removal and education. A long-term effort to reintroduce this ancient fish to the region, whose numbers stand at less than 1% of its historic population, the project has seen great success rearing and releasing fingerlings into four rivers in the watershed.
Last year, thanks to major support from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Bay Area Community Foundation, the sturgeon team began the development of a documentary film with Fauna Creative that focuses on the effort. The documentary (23 minutes) is now complete!
